Run Group Term Two
Welcome Back
Welcome back to Run Group for Term Two. Firstly, a big THANK YOU to Kate and Claire for organising training in Week One whilst I was in India with work. From the kids’ feedback today, it seems to have gone rather well. I was bombarded with chants of “Relays! Relays! Relays!” when trying to explain the training today.
This Week’s Session
Today, we did a “Buckets” session. 6 timed runs of 45 seconds – with each one an attempt to see how far you could get in the time. The fastest reached the green bands, and everybody reached green, blue, red, pink, yellow or green. At the end of the session, the bands on your arm showed your speed and consistency.
Commonwealth Games
You will see from the photo that we had some extra decoration at training this morning; a little banner that we claimed at the end of Commonwealth Games. Claire, the kids and I had a great few days up on the Gold Coast. Highlights were:
Athletics Friday: Womens shot put with Valerie Adams (NZ), Mens discus, a fantastic womens pole vault that had the full 30,000 crowd behind all competitors, especially Nina Kennedy, an amazing steeplechase and an enthralling 10,000m with Jake Robertson setting a NZ record.
Marathon Sunday: Kurt Fearnley, Maddi di Rosario, Mike Shelley getting golds and Lisa Weightman and Jess Trengove getting silver and bronze in the four marathon races.
Claire took some great photos and there are a small selection here:

Athletics Australia are posting some great Instagram at the moment.
I loved this one of Henry Frayne’s silver medal jump:
