Run Group Term Four Wrap-Up
It has been a fantastic year for Avalon Run Group. Thank you to all the runners for turning up, to all the parents for getting them there and to the fantastic assistant coaches for this year – Claire, Kate, Cath, Kylie and Rich.
At the beginning of the year, our objective was to have forty runners enjoy their day at School Cross Country. We definitely achieved that – once Cross Country could actually take place due to weather constraints. After that, we focus on fitness and fun and creating a great training environment – and I think we have done well.
This year’s group has definitely been the best ever. We have had the largest group of runners in the six years we have been doing training and this year’s group of kids has been fantastic. Each week, they turn up with energy, enthusiasm and positivity. Wednesday mornings are something I really look forward. We have our occasional challenging moments (getting 40 kids to put their socks on after running at the beach is a stand-out), but they are the exception rather than the rule.
With the regular assistance of extra coaches, we have been able to do a few new things this year and relocate the group several times to other places in Avalon. I love running at the beach and in the park at the back of school.
On a personal level, this year has been great too. Every week, I learn something new from the kids. I also had the opportunity to get my Level 3 Coaches qualification this year – and it was great to share with other coaches and learn new ideas.

Looking Ahead to 2018
We will have a break from the group over the holidays and intend to be back in 2018. I will be in touch nearer the time.
For those moving on to High School or other places, good luck and thank you for coming to the group. If you need help with your running, or need suggestions on training groups or what training to do, please get in touch. I am always happy to help. I am sure I will see you on the beach at Nippers or around Avalon.
Have a great Christmas and New Year.
Claire and Tom.
