Run Group Week Eight Term Three

Run Group Week Eight

We had a magnificent turnout this morning and it was beautiful weather – bright spring sunshine – but still a little bit cold.  Thirty kids turned out and they were bright, positive, enthusiastic and not too crazy from the full moon!

The session today was “Olympic Bands”.  Five x 1 minute runs – with the aim being to get as far as possible on each one.  At the end of the run, there were buckets of coloured wristbands – to measure the distance run.  The faster runners got 5 green bands, the slower ones got blue, red, yellow or pink, depending on their speed and distance covered.

This session was preceded by the usual warm-up and finished off with some great skipping.  Mr Rankin paid us a visit at the end and stayed for the skipping session.

Thank You Special K’s!

Thank you to Kate, Kylie and Kath for organising run group last week.  I was away with work and those three kept things rolling with a great relay training session.  It was good to hear from the kids that they had enjoyed something different.  Thank you for putting the session together and going ahead with the training.

Video of the Week

The international Track and Field season drew to a close over the last couple of weeks with the Diamond League finals in Monaco and Brussels.  I have shared videos of steeplechase already this season, but the mens 3000m steeplechase was another classic.  The three favourites were Evan Jager – technically perfect and tactically savvy, Conselus Kipruto – naturally brilliant and almost never beaten, Rabia Makhloufi – new Algerian talent.  It turned into an outstanding race which is well worth watching all eight minutes of.
