Run Group Week Six Term Two
Run Group Week Six
This week, we headed to a different location – Palmgrove Park at the back of school. This provided a new challenge – trees, hills, and tight corners. It was a good fun circuit and there was plenty of energy and lots of running going from the group of 33 young athletes.
Warm-Up: We warmed up on the field as usual – with hops, hurdles, handstands (!).
Run Over: Then it was over to Palmgrove Park via the top of school. Thanks to Lucy, Maya, Claudia and Natasha for their help in getting everybody there safely.
Run Session: We did 6 x 1 lap of a twisty hilly circuit which finished with a great down hill run. Brilliant.
Run Back: Then back to the grass and off to school.
Thanks to all our runners for having fun and moving around safely – well done. And thanks to Kath and Kylie for their great assistance today.
Where will we go to next week . . . ? We’ll look for something new but take it a bit easy on those going to Regionals on Friday.
Video of the Week #1: Prefontaine Classic 5000m
Last weekend, in Eugene, Oregon, USA, it was the Prefontaine Classic. This is the best Athletics meeting in the USA and normally has really high quality middle and long distance events. In the men’s events, the 5000m had a fantastic quality field and Mo Farah provided a masterclass in winning. It’s an old tactic, but a good one: move to the front and make sure nobody goes past you. I’ve started the video at the 4000m point . . .
Video of the Week #2: Doha Diamond League Women’s Steeplechase
The Prefontaine Classic is one of the Diamond League races – the global series for elite athletes. At the previous meeting in Doha, the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase was a great race. Ruth Chebet, unbeatable last season, tried the same approach of taking the lead and turned it into a tough and fast battle for the win. I’ve started the video just after half way.
